What to do this weekend - October 29, 2026
Featuring ton of Halloween events and much more.
Hi,
This is my roundup of local events that publishes every Thursday morning. Here's a link to submit events for future posts!
I really appreciate everyone who has submitted events recently. There are quite a few included in this calendar that I don't think I would've seen otherwise. Thank you, readers! Please keep sending me stuff. (My general rule is that if I find it interesting and could see myself attending, I'll include it in the calendar.)
Here's your last reminder about the upcoming midterm elections, which are happening in just a few days. Tuesday, November 3 is Election Day though you can still cast your ballot early before then.
About 10% of subscribers to This Week In Lincoln pay for the newsletter. I provide these event roundups and other coverage of local events for free. But I rely on the generosity of readers to keep going. I work as a freelance writer, so every new paid subscriber means I can spend a bit less time on other work and a bit more on making the newsletter better
You'll also get access to subscriber-exclusive posts! Alternatively you can support me on Patreon (and receive a complimentary paid subscription to the newsletter by doing so) or leave a one-time tip.
A dispatch from the This Week In Lincoln kitten bureau:

Note the third photo: Tillie has a negative reaction to seeing Pat McAfee. Me too.
Thanks for being here! And please share This Week In Lincoln with a friend and help me keeping growing this project.

Film: Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown (1988)
+ When: 7:15 pm
+ Where: Ross Media Arts Center, 313 N 13th St. (Google Maps)
+ Cost: $10 GA | $5 for members and UNL students
More details: "Melding melodrama with screwball farce, this Academy Award–nominated black comedy was Pedro Almodóvar’s international breakthrough and secured his place at the vanguard of modern Spanish cinema. Continuing the auteur’s exploration of the female psyche, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown tells the story of Pepa—played by the director’s frequent collaborator Carmen Maura—who resolves to kill herself with a batch of sleeping-pill-laced gazpacho after her lover leaves her. Fortunately, she is interrupted by a deliciously chaotic series of events. The filmmaker channeled Hollywood inspiration into his own unique vision, arriving at the irreverent humor and vibrant visual sense that define his work today. With an exceptional ensemble cast that also includes Antonio Banderas and Rossy de Palma, this film shows an artist in total control of his craft. (Criterion)"

More details: "With Scanners, David Cronenberg plunges us into one of his most terrifying and thrilling sci-fi worlds. After a man with extraordinary—and frighteningly destructive—telepathic abilities is nabbed by agents from a mysterious rogue corporation, he discovers he is far from the only possessor of such strange powers, and that some of the other “scanners” have their minds set on world domination, while others are trying to stop them. A trademark Cronenberg combination of the visceral and the cerebral, this phenomenally gruesome and provocative film about the expanses and limits of the human mind was the Canadian director’s breakout hit in the United States."
