What to do this weekend - September 10, 2026

Hi,

Readers of this newsletter probably need this reminder less than most people but anyway: It's only 54 days until the midterm elections. Make sure to check whether you're registered to vote (even if you think you are, especially if you think you are).

Key dates include:

  • October 5: In person early voting begins
  • October 16: Deadline for voter registration (online or by mail)
  • October 23: Deadline for voter registration (in person at your election office)
  • October 23: Deadline to request your early voting ballot
  • November 3: Election Day

Okay, that's it for the important public service stuff. Back to your regularly scheduled programming: This is my round-up of local events that goes out every Thursday morning.

You can find the calendar below! Here's a link to submit events for future posts. I'm still filling out stuff going on October and November.

Other newsletters love to be like: "Support me with a paid subscription! It's just $5 a month! That's less than the price of your daily coffee!"

First of all, don't spend $5 a day on coffee what are you doing. Grind your own beans at home.

Second, here's my much better pitch: "Support This Week In Lincoln with a paid subscription! It's just $50 a year! Um, turns out that's way more than the price of your daily coffee and this psychological trick doesn't work when the numbers are bigger. Wait, this is actually a bad pitch!"

Whatever. Please consider becoming a financial supporter of the newsletter. It really does help. (You can also support me on Patreon or just leave a one-time tip.)

If you can't afford to pay for This Week In Lincoln, I understand! Just share it with your friends instead.

Here's some other stuff you should know:

The Flatwater Free Press's annual festival (aka FlatFest) is about two weeks away. Tickets for the main event at Roca Berry Farm are a bit pricey at $150, but they also have a bunch of free programming in Lincoln. All those events are included in the event calendar. If you've ever wanted to meet and talk to some of Nebraska's best journalists, this is your chance!

Lincoln's annual Welcoming Week begins today! It's a chance for Lincolnites to experience the city's cultural diversity by exploring local music, food, stories, and traditions, and the goal is to celebrate those who make Lincoln a community that's welcoming to everyone — especially immigrants. I've included some events that caught my eye in the calendar, but you can find the full schedule here.

This Week In Lincoln is on Instagram so follow me there. You can also send me stuff to write about (or just say hello): tynanstewart@proton.me
