What to do this weekend - March 19, 2026
Plus: A local mutual aid group hosts a community art sale.
Hi,
Welcome back to This Week In Lincoln. As always, you'll find a list of curated events below, including concerts and stuff happening this weekend — but also next week and later this year.
Here's a few other cool things you should know about:
- The local mutual aid group, Lincoln Community Care, is holding a spring pop-up art sale. Local artists have donated their work, and proceeds will go toward housing and helping our neighbors in Lincoln meet their basic needs. They're posting new art on Instagram, and you can DM them to buy what you want!
- Lincoln's branch of Indivisible, the progressive political organization, is looking for submissions from local artists for an upcoming "Art is Resistance" show. Selected works will be displayed from 7 pm to 10 pm on Friday, April 4 at 1867 Bar (as part of First Friday). The submission deadline is Monday, March 30. Find more details and instructions on how to submit your work for consideration here.
- A reminder from last week's newsletter: The Nebraska Heritage book club, which meets monthly at the downtown library, is currently reading a novel that's very relevant to Lincoln: Mari Sandoz's cutting and very political Capital City. The book club will meet on Friday, March 27 from noon to 1 pm in the Auditorium at Bennett Martin Library to discuss it. (If you've never read Sandoz's book, now is the perfect time, as there's a new theatrical adaptation of Capital City coming to the Lied Center in April!)
Got an event you want to see featured in next week's event roundup? Submit it here. You can also send feedback, suggestions, compliments, criticism and ideas for things I should write about to tynanstewart@proton.me
Also, please share the newsletter with your friends! Word of mouth and your recommendation really helps this thing grow.

This is a project created by a human, for humans. How quaint! I devote a lot of time each week to finding events that I actually think might be worth your time. If you appreciate this kind of work in a world drowning in thoughtless, algorithmically-driven AI slop, please consider sending me a few bucks. You can sign up for a paid subscription, support my writing on Patreon, or buy me a (metaphorical) coffee.

+ Cost: $10 matinee | $12 evening show
More details about the film: "In pre-internet 1987, Conor and his dog Sandy live a life of seclusion, lost in the slow-rendering graphics of early Macs and televisions aglow with late night horror movie marathons. But when he begins playing OBEX, a new and mysterious, state-of-the-art computer game, he finds himself trapped in a low-tech, but high-stakes analog hellscape as the line between reality and game blurs. Audacious and uncanny, writer-director Albert Birney’s OBEX is a delightfully skewed lo-fi fantasy. Shot in striking black and white, this surreally nostalgic nightmare revisits the dawn of personal computing to reflect on the loneliness of our always-online present day."
