What to do this weekend - March 12, 2026
Plus: What will the Great Plains look like in 50 years?
Hi,
Welcome back to This Week In Lincoln.
Here's a few things to know:
- The 2026 Academy Awards ceremony is this weekend, and the Ross is running an Oscars pick-em contest. The person with the most correct guesses will receive free admission to the theater for an entire year! Make sure you enter before Sunday, March 15.
- The Nebraska Heritage book club, which meets monthly at the downtown library, is currently reading a novel that's very relevant to Lincoln: Mari Sandoz's cutting and very political Capital City. The book club will meet on Friday, March 27 from noon to 1 pm in the Auditorium at Bennett Martin Library to discuss it. (If you've never read Sandoz's book, now is the perfect time, as there's a new theatrical adaptation of Capital City coming to the Lied Center in April!)
- The Center for Great Plains Studies' annual conference kicks off in a few weeks. It runs from Tuesday, March 31 to Thursday, April 2, and most of the events will take place at the Nebraska Innovation Campus Conference Center. This year's theme is "Great Plains Futures": Speakers, workshops and panels will explore what our region could look like over the next 50 years. Tickets are $100 for the general public and $25 for students, but there are several free events that I'll try to highlight in future issues of the newsletter.
Got an event you want to see featured in next week's event roundup? Submit it here. You can also send feedback, suggestions, compliments, criticism and ideas for things I should write about to tynanstewart@proton.me
Also, please share the newsletter with your friends! Word of mouth and your recommendation helps this thing grow.
