What to do this weekend - August 28, 2025

Hi,
Welcome to This Week In Lincoln.
I'm sorry for posting this bad TikTok here, but I need somewhere to channel my resentment of travel bloggers who have a surface-level understanding of the cities they visit. So you get to share in my pain:
@urbanistariel š½ I finally crossed off Lincoln, Nebraska off my bucket list and it was glorious! No joke, Iāve always wanted to come here. It was for no particular reason, aside from the fact that it sounded like the most American place to visit. Where should I go to next for the #arielinamerica series? #nebraskatok #huskers
⬠original sound - Ariel Viera
It's not that this video actively misrepresents Lincoln or shits on it or anything like that. In fact, it's overwhelmingly positive and cheerful and complimentary. But here's what annoys me: This dude brands himself as someone who will show you the "history you wonāt find in the textbooks" and "the places you wonāt find in the guide books." And yet this video feels like he Googled "stuff to do in Lincoln" and picked the first three things he saw. Haymarket! Football! The Capitol! It's just so obvious that he put almost no effort into researching this video or talking to locals who could show him something interesting.
A forgettable piece of travel content really isn't worth getting mad about. But I think Lincoln is cool and deserves better than this bland garbage and I'm going to keep yelling about that.
If you make GOOD short-form (or long-form) videos about the city's actual forgotten history and obscure, overlooked joints, please send them to me!
I'm headed to Lawrence, Kansas to sell zines this weekend, so I won't be at any of the cool stuff that I've curated below. But if you're in town for Labor Day weekend, I hope you find something worth your time!
Thanks for reading! Got an event you want to see featured in next week's newsletter? Submit it here. You can also send feedback, suggestions, compliments, criticism and ideas for things I should write about to tynanstewart@proton.me
